Géoportail: new search engine

Géoportail: new search engine

More functionalities and more user-friendly: with Géoportail you can now search for places by address or get to a particular place or point more quickly and easily by entering its geographical coordinates.

“Go to” an address…

To get to the address of your choice: just go to the Géoportail home page or viewing function (“View” tab),  enter the street name and number, then the name of the commune and click on “Go”.

“Go to…” a commune

It’s still easy to get to one of France’s 36,685 communes: just go to the Géoportail home page or viewing function (“View” tab), click on “Name of the commune” then click on “Go”.

Advanced search

The advanced search function (click on ‘Advanced search’ on the home page or the Géoportail viewing page) enables you to get to a commune or place, address or precise point identified by geographical coordinates, by clicking on the corresponding icon.

Commune or place

Enter the name of the place then click on Search. You can refine your search using the list on the right of the screen and selecting a territory, region, department, or commune.

Address

To get to a specific address, just enter the street name and number, then the name of the commune and click on “Go”.

Coordinates

Already know the coordinates of a really interesting or particularly beautiful site? To get there, just enter the longitude and latitude (the default parameters used are the ‘metropolitan France’ territory and the ‘WGS84’, or GPS, system) then click on Go.

Did you know?

Géoportail’s toponymic data base contains 2 million place names!

You will find the geographical coordinates of the place you are viewing in the information zone at the bottom of the screen: they are updated automatically as you move the cursor.

The address/commune/coordinates search engine operates in both 2D and 3D modes.
