Montbéliard and Hyères: even more realistic 3D building views

Montbéliard and Hyères: even more realistic 3D building views

You are already familiar with 3D views of buildings shown as basic geometric volumes. Now you can preview a more realistic 3D view: roof shapes, walls, you can see it all on the screen...

A more detailed portrayal of the third dimension

Bâti3D

This new technology, from the IGN research laboratories, uses a semi-automatic process to calculate 3D models of buildings, producing a truly realistic portrayal of urban environments.

In practice, each building is described by a series of roof-slopes and walls, all of which are subsequently "faced" using very high definition aerial photos, to give a picture of the town that is not just "realistic" but in fact absolutely "real".

Hyères and Montbéliard in 3D

Explore Hyères and Montbéliard as if you were actually there!

NB : only a certain number of districts of Montbéliard and Hyères are currently available using this technology.

Soon this highly accurate version of 3D viewing will be applied to the whole Montbéliard urban area.

Partnerships that make 3D viewing even more like the real thing

These 3D views are provided by our technological partners (IGO, Virtuel City).

They apply their expertise in complementary surveys, modelling and data revamping to the reference data of the IGN’s Bâti3D database.

Such projects are the result of initiatives issuing from local authorities, in this case the Montbéliard Urban Area Community and the Toulon Provence Méditerranée Urban Area Community..

Géoportail publishes initiatives such as these, set up by local organisations, as and when they become available, as part of its partnership programme.

Other initiatives, involving other areas, will soon be available to view on Géoportail.

To be continued...
