Explore Géoportail in 3D
From now on you can visit France in 3 dimensions and explore both metropolitan France and its overseas territories (DOM) from an entirely new perspective. All aboard!
What is 3D for?
3D enables visitors to consult data stored at Géoportail (aerial photographs of metropolitan France and its overseas territories, or DOM) in a totally new and entertaining way.
- They can move about inside the aerial photographs, go up and down, go round in a circle or change gradient so as to visualise the exact contours of the place they want to study. The two kinds of navigation can be combined, providing maximum freedom of movement.
- All this is easy to use too. The 3D interface is similar to that used in 2D and is just as intuitive, but has been enhanced with specific navigational tools. The screen emphasises the picture in particular, thus giving a real sensation of being immersed in the 3D image.
How 3D works
Géoportail 3D uses orthophotos: these are aerial photographs that have been corrected to remove all distortion so that they can be superimposed on maps.
Digital terrain models, which show natural relief in precise detail, are then overlaid with these photos.
